CONCEPTIONS OF SUCCESS 8:11 AM


From the common viewpoint, a person who is successful is one who has the power to afford all the luxuries in life or the power to rule and command without breaking the laws in acquiring whatever one demands in life. For years, too many people have believe that success is all about the realisation of material things . He may be the richest man in the world or the President of the USA. It is not uncommon for people to associate one with education, credentials, intelligence and good looks as factors to define success.
On the other hand, anyone who adds value to another person's life is a success in my eyes. As long as they provide something to make you happier or feel good about yourself , they are successful. The best way to succeed is to discover what you love and find a way to offer it to others as a form of service. It takes a lot of hard work too but I guess if you work on your passion, everything will fall into place and your work will be a joy. Of course, the fame and fortune that you acquire along the way would be nice too.

One famous personality whom I would consider to be successful would be THOMAS EDISON. He was an American inventor and businessman who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph and the long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. He was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large teamwork to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.He is credited with numerous inventions that contributed to mass communication and, in particular, telecommunications. His advanced work in these fields was an outgrowth of his early career as a telegraph operator. Edison originated the concept and implementation of electric-power generation and distribution to homes, businesses, and factories - a crucial development in the modern industrialized world. His first power plant was on Manhattan Island, New York.


Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. His parents were Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr. and Nancy Matthews Elliott. Thomas was their seventh child.
Edison started school late due to childhood illness. His mind often wandered and his teacher Alexander Crawford often called him "addled". He was kicked out of school three months after starting. Edison was then home-schooled by his mother, who was previously a teacher. She encouraged and taught him to read and experiment. Many of his lessons came from reading R.G. Parker's School of natural philosophy.
Edison's life in Port Huron was bitter. He was partially deaf since a young age, and became became a telegraph operator after he saved Jimmie Mackenzie from being struck by a runaway train. Jimmie's father, station agent J.U. Mackenzie of Mount Clemens, Michigan, was so grateful that he took Edison as an apprentice and trained him as a telegraph operator. Edison's deafness helped him as it blocked out noises and prevented Edison from hearing the telegrapher sitting next to him.
One of Edison's mentors during those early years was a fellow telegrapher and inventor named Franklin Leonard Pope, who allowed the then broke youth to live and work in the basement of his Elizabeth, New Jersey home.
On December 25, 1871, he married Mary Stilwell, and they had three children, Marion Estelle Edison, Thomas Alva Edison, Jr., and William Leslie Edison. His wife Mary died in 1884. On February 24, 1886, he married 19 year old Mina Miller. They had an additional three children, Madeleine Edison, Charles Edison (who took over the company upon his father's death) and Theodore Edison.
Thomas Edison died on Oct. 18th, 1931 in New Jersey at the age of 84 years.

Thomas Edison is one successful man because his inventions are made to save and advance human life. He finds out what the world needs, then proceed to invent. His inventions were always useful in terms of the service it gave to others.

Although Thomas Edison was nearly deaf all his life, he had attained awesome achievements which many healthy peple could not do. He persisted in his work and invented many inventions which are useful to the world. This just proves that everyone could do much more, could attain even better results, only if we persever and focus upon doing something useful and work very hard at it.

SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WHOM I KNOW PERSONALLY


I believe that all teachers are successful people because they add values to the students' life, passing on precious knowledge and giving students the chance to have a better future. They educate students, and does tremendous amount of work and research just to make lessons more interesting for students. They help students learn and touched someone's heart by making a difference in the direction their lifes took. Teachers' strong passion for teaching help mould the lives and future of the students of singapore, indirectly giving back to the society and help bring singapore to even greater heights.

Teachers' strong passion for teaching has made me feel automatically inspired to become an effective learner and strive to do my best in order to not disappoint them. Also, teachers' patience, love, and care would also motivate me to excel in my studies.

I would gain more experience and not just learn what is taught in the classroom but also has the opportunity to discover and explore more about the world outside by joining this programme.

SCHOLARSHIP AND SERVICE 8:25 AM

WHAT IS SCHOLARSHIP TO ME?
Personally, I feel that scholarship is not just about excelling academically and getting top grades. While achieving good academic results is important, it is also important to strive to make educational experience as meaningful and enriching as possible. Take up modules that will further knowledge and understanding of a subject and not shy away from demanding courses simply because they may be more difficult. Scholarship, is a chance given to students to learn more, to acquire knowledge of the world, and nurture leader to guide and help others.It is the sense and passion to serve the nation, and bring the country to great heights.

RESPONSIBILITIES A SCHOLAR MUST HAVE.
Being a scholar brings with it not just honour and prestige but also important responsibilities.As a scholar, I have the responsbility to serve the country, and to help others less fortunate.
Furthermore, a scholar will be in the public eye and some people may look up to them as a role model, while others may look to them for guidance. Scholars must work hard to bring the country to greater heights to be worthy of the scholarship and the public trust and responsibilities placed upon them.Scholars have to strive to excel in all endeavors, to always uphold and act with integrity.

OBSTACLES FACED
Going overseas to study, away from home, away from our comfort zone makes it really challenging because there will be a lot of changes involved and not being able to adapt to the changes quickly will further add to the stress caused by studying. The change in weather conditions, lifestyles, types of food, languages used, habits and the way of doing things by the locals, will all pose as obstacles to the scholars. Moreover, away from family would mean being independent in all aspects in life. Scholars would also have complete freedom and they must have self discipline,and exercise self control, to stay focus in their studies and not forget their purpose of going to such a faraway country,to serve Singapore and all Singaporeans.

A SCHOLAR, A LEADER?
I have no doubt that a scholar, is indeed a leader. Thats because a scholar would have the characteristics and traits that a leader would have to be able to guide and lead others and be a role model for others to follow, for others to look up to.

SERVING OTHERS,GIVING BACK TO THE SOCIETY
As a scholar, I intend to serve my school and my country who have given me the opportunity to develop and stretch my potential to the fullest and have nurtured me to be a wonderfull and loyal student and citizen. I would have to work hard, together with others, to ensure Singapore's continued success and development. Also, i would be committed to serve Singapore, and desire to improve and enrich the lives of fellow Singaporeans by simply helping the needy, educating the younger generation, or working to strengthen community bonds to achieve a successfull and an even better home for all Singaporeans.

The Duty Fulfiller

As an ISTJ, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. Your secondary mode is external, where you deal with things rationally and logically.

ISTJs are quiet and reserved individuals who are interested in security and peaceful living. They have a strongly-felt internal sense of duty, which lends them a serious air and the motivation to follow through on tasks. Organized and methodical in their approach, they can generally succeed at any task which they undertake.

ISTJs are very loyal, faithful, and dependable. They place great importance on honesty and integrity. They are "good citizens" who can be depended on to do the right thing for their families and communities. While they generally take things very seriously, they also usually have an offbeat sense of humor and can be a lot of fun - especially at family or work-related gatherings.

ISTJs tend to believe in laws and traditions, and expect the same from others. They're not comfortable with breaking laws or going against the rules. If they are able to see a good reason for stepping outside of the established mode of doing things, the ISTJ will support that effort. However, ISTJs more often tend to believe that things should be done according to procedures and plans. If an ISTJ has not developed their Intuitive side sufficiently, they may become overly obsessed with structure, and insist on doing everything "by the book".

The ISTJ is extremely dependable on following through with things which he or she has promised. For this reason, they sometimes get more and more work piled on them. Because the ISTJ has such a strong sense of duty, they may have a difficult time saying "no" when they are given more work than they can reasonably handle. For this reason, the ISTJ often works long hours, and may be unwittingly taken advantage of.

The ISTJ will work for long periods of time and put tremendous amounts of energy into doing any task which they see as important to fulfilling a goal. However, they will resist putting energy into things which don't make sense to them, or for which they can't see a practical application. They prefer to work alone, but work well in teams when the situation demands it. They like to be accountable for their actions, and enjoy being in positions of authority. The ISTJ has little use for theory or abstract thinking, unless the practical application is clear.

ISTJs have tremendous respect for facts. They hold a tremendous store of facts within themselves, which they have gathered through their Sensing preference. They may have difficulty understanding a theory or idea which is different from their own perspective. However, if they are shown the importance or relevance of the idea to someone who they respect or care about, the idea becomes a fact, which the ISTJ will internalize and support. Once the ISTJ supports a cause or idea, he or she will stop at no lengths to ensure that they are doing their duty of giving support where support is needed.

The ISTJ is not naturally in tune with their own feelings and the feelings of others. They may have difficulty picking up on emotional needs immediately, as they are presented. Being perfectionists themselves, they have a tendency to take other people's efforts for granted, like they take their own efforts for granted. They need to remember to pat people on the back once in a while.

ISTJs are likely to be uncomfortable expressing affection and emotion to others. However, their strong sense of duty and the ability to see what needs to be done in any situation usually allows them to overcome their natural reservations, and they are usually quite supporting and caring individuals with the people that they love. Once the ISTJ realizes the emotional needs of those who are close to them, they put forth effort to meet those needs.

The ISTJ is extremely faithful and loyal. Traditional and family-minded, they will put forth great amounts of effort at making their homes and families running smoothly. They are responsible parents, taking their parenting roles seriously. They are usually good and generous providers to their families. They care deeply about those close to them, although they usually are not comfortable with expressing their love. The ISTJ is likely to express their affection through actions, rather than through words.

ISTJs have an excellent ability to take any task and define it, organize it, plan it, and implement it through to completion. They are very hard workers, who do not allow obstacles to get in the way of performing their duties. They do not usually give themselves enough credit for their achievements, seeing their accomplishments simply as the natural fulfillment of their obligations.
ISTJs usually have a great sense of space and function, and artistic appreciation. Their homes are likely to be tastefully furnished and immaculately maintained. They are acutely aware of their senses, and want to be in surroundings which fit their need for structure, order, and beauty.

Under stress, ISTJs may fall into "catastrophe mode", where they see nothing but all of the possibilities of what could go wrong. They will berate themselves for things which they should have done differently, or duties which they failed to perform. They will lose their ability to see things calmly and reasonably, and will depress themselves with their visions of doom.

In general, the ISTJ has a tremendous amount of potential. Capable, logical, reasonable, and effective individuals with a deeply driven desire to promote security and peaceful living, the ISTJ has what it takes to be highly effective at achieving their chosen goals - whatever they may be.

ISTJ PERSONAL GROWTH
People with the ISTJ personality type are serious, methodical, analytical, and hard-working. They store knowledge gained from their experiences, and use this knowledge to tackle new problems and ideas. They will work a problem through to its identified conclusion. They work towards defined goals; their analytical objectivity gives them the tendency to make goal-oriented decisions that are not waylaid by the concerns of individuals. They're uncomfortable with ideas that are completely new to them, or that are totally theoretical in nature. Since they have no direct experience with the new concept, they have no tools for knowing how to deal with it or what to think about it. They need to get the framework for a new concept before they're able to deal with it. An experienced ISTJ is usually a very capable person, and makes an excellent manager. ISTJs have great value for the "tried and true" approach, and are reluctant to adopt new systems until direct experience proves the validity of the new system. They internalize and value the rules and structure of the society in which they live, and disapprove of behaviors that go against these rules. The ISTJ needs to focus on applying their judgement against information that they have gathered, rather than against single facts or ideas coming from others. Before judging, put all new data into the context of existing facts. Working with all of the facts at your disposal will greatly improve your ability to judge effectively, and will reduce the likelihood that you will become offensively reactionary and isolationist.


REFLECTION
After reading these, I begin to understand myself better and felt that the test results were amazingly true and accurate.i felt that this a good chance for me as well as others to get to know me better.
I get to know what are my strengths and thus,able to make full use of it. I also get to recognise my weaknesses and will try to conquer it.
I get to learn solutions to problems that the ISTJs tend to experience and know what to take note of to achieve success, victory and to communicate better with people.
I have learned to believe in myself and have confidence in anything I do, believing that i can accomplish all tasks.
I have learned to appreciate myself and others, and will remind myself frequently not to take things for granted.

ACHIEVING GOALS BY:
-Doing things that allow my organizational and logical abilities to flourish.
-See my weaknesses for what they are, and seek to overcome them.
-Talk through my thoughts.Stepping through vast amount of information in order to put things into perspective. Give myself appropriate time to do this, and take advantage of discussing ideas with others.
-Don't dismiss ideas prematurely because of the person generating the ideas, or because I think I already know it all. After all, everybody has something to offer, and nobody knows everything. As Steven Covey says, "Seek first to understand, and then to be understood."
-Be aware of others. Take time to notice where others are coming from. What is their personality type? How are they currently feeling?
-Be accountable for myself. Don't blame the problems in my life on other people. Look inwardly for solutions.
-Be gentle in my expectations.
-Assume the Best. Don't distress myself and others by dwelling on the dark side of everything. Just as there is a positive charge for every negative charge, there is a light side to every dark side. Remember that positive situations are created by positive attitudes, and vice versa. Expect the best, and the best will come forward.
-There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Sometimes it's necessary to take a risk to initiate change. Don't be afraid to do so when that time comes. In most cases, the obstacles and burdens standing in the way of the goal are not really there--they just exist in my perspective. Change my perspective--change my life.
